My "check engine" light is on and I am taking my car to Aamco to have it checked for free. Good idea or no?

Are they gonna charge me a lot after they examine my car and find out there's something wrong with it? I maintain my car very well and there's nothing wrong with the way it runs. It just has that light on. If not Aamco, do you recommend I go anywhere
I wouldnt go to places that offer free services.. but go ahead and take it, and find out what is causing the problem .. if your car is running fine, hopefully it is a sensor gone bad .. if they tell you, tell them clearly that you will gather the money
