'99 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500 engine stalls in idle, bogs when throttled up?

Had some major issues with my VN1500-G1. Riding on the freeway and the engine lost power for a second (as if I ws throttle braking) then shut off completely. Got it started after a little cranking and went on my merry way. About 50 miles from my home

I'm no pro on this but I noticed you said you changed the oil but no mention of changing the oil filter. Doubt it would make the difference between it running or not but....
