The developer of Twitteroo, a program to post messages to Twitter.com without using a browser, also maintains a site called 9 Minutes of Fame. At the site, every nine minutes visitors get a chance to submit the address of a blog and the first user who does so will have the RSS feed of their site displayed for next nine minutes when the process begins again. Why am I posting about this site? Currently, 9 Minutes of Fame has a 2 or 3 PageRank (depending on which Google data center you are pulling PageRank from). For SEO, anything below a PageRank of 4 is usually not worth the bother, but if the site grows and it’s PageRank grows with it, it may be something you will want to consider participating in to get your new sites going. Of course, as the site grows, it will become increasingly difficult to submit your blog before someone else!

Search Engine Land has a good article about the part of SEO that’s beyond meta tags, titles, and keyword placement - those things that some call the 95 percent “easy” part of SEO. However you see your SEO efforts, it’s what you do beyond the basics that makes all the difference. You likely have a foundation and formula that you apply to all your online efforts, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to go from there, especially for optimizers who are just getting started. This article by Todd Friesen lays out six areas where Mr. Friesen focus’s on after implementing his core SEO strategy. I found his take on “cloaking”, the blackhat technique of presenting search engine friendly content to spiders while delivering different content to regular web surfers, as a skill that shouldn’t be dismissed just because of it’s negative association. In certain instances, cloaking can save hard earned rankings for yourself or a client when design changes are implemented which aren’t search engine friendly. Take a look at the article and think about the strategies you use in that “five percent” area of SEO.
